Game, set, match all in an app from one of our own By Amy Shanahan; photo courtesy of Chip Hudson Original article posted on The Castle Pines Connection website, 2014 Chip Hudson’s youngest son is a big fan of his father’s app for iPad and iPhones which allows tennis players to track their statistics. Whether a player wants to analyze their stats by game, set, or match, the information is accurate and immediately at their fingertips. Castle Pines resident Chip Hudson loves the game of tennis, and most days he may be seen playing in and around Castle Pines and throughout the state in tournaments. In addition, Hudson is a software engineer who has been employed by Northrop Grumman for the past fifteen years. In 2009, Hudson combined his talents and passions and created his own application “My Tennis Stats” (MTS) for the iPhone and iPad. MTS is an amazing app that allows tennis players to easily track their statistics during matches. In the past, coaches, parents and friends were tasked with charting statistics such as volleys and double faults for both professional and serious recreational players. Often high school players play up to seven matches, and the charting process is very labor intensive, although necessary in order to improve the player’s game. “I’ve found that a lot of tennis coaches recommend the app to parents because they don’t have the time or ability to watch so many matches at a time,” explained Hudson.  “With MTS the parents track the stats and send the coaches the e-mail report afterwards.  This allows the coach to quickly identify weaknesses in their players’ games to work on and improve in practice.” Hudson is a Colorado native who lives in Castle Pines with his wife and three young boys. “We just love the people and the area, and our 10-year-old really enjoys Timber Trail … so that’s a plus also!” Hudson feels confident about his products and is excited about the prospects for his company. MTS (for the iPhone, iPod Touch), My Tennis Stats HD (for the iPad), and My Tennis Stats Lite (free version) have been downloaded more than 28,000 times in more than 100 different countries and are available in five different languages. MTS differentiates itself from other charting software programs in several ways. The program allows charting of any kind of singles match as well as doubles matches, whereby it tracks statistical...

Wheelchair tennis tutorials to live by

Learning wheelchair tennis and getting valuable — and free — insight to improve your game recently became much, much easier. Check out www.wheelchair-tennis.com, a dynamic site packed with online video tutorials about everything from basic and advanced strokes and mobility to choosing the right chair and maintaining mental toughness on the court. It’s hard to find more expert instruction than this. One of the masters of wheelchair tennis, six-time World Champion David Hall, and his longtime coach, Rich Berman of Rich’s Tennis School near Boulder, Colo., teamed on this initiative, called “Let’s Roll.” “Rich is the master at teaching the wheelchair game, (and) it’s a real honor for me to be involved in this project with him,” said Hall, who was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2010. “I first started playing wheelchair tennis, to have something like this available would have been so helpful. Also, with tennis, you never stop learning, and ‘Let’s Roll’ covers all areas.” Knowing that the online tools could be not only helpful, but inspirational, Berman said his chief focus is helping more people know they’re out there. Again, for free! “Our hope is that all current and future wheelchair players and coaches worldwide will use ‘Let’s Roll’ as the foundation for learning and teaching this wonderful sport,” he said. We at HD Software hope you, too, will spread word about this great resource. Again, you can find it online at...

The inaugural team’s 6th-grade members not only used My Tennis Stats to learn the sports basics and track their progress on their school-issued iPads — they also finished the season with a 6-1 team-match record. Their middle school league was organized by the Colorado Tennis...
